First Time Possession in Maryland

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland

Alright so 3 of my buddies and I were going to WVU for my other friends 21st. We end up getting pulled over for being too close to the car infront of us. From talking to us for 5 seconds he tells my friend who was driving to get out of the car. He then procedes to take us all out and searches the car because he smelt marijuana. He never told us that it smelt like anything, but in the police report he said that it smelt like burn marijuana. First off, my friend cleaned the car the night before sprayed fabreez and we were smoking cigs and HAD NOT smoked any maijuana. He did find some in the car though. So we get booked and now I have a possession of marijuana charge. Im 21 and do not have any other arrests. I was wondering what is most likely going to happen? I would prefer to not have it show up on my record. Is there any way to take a class and pay a fine instead of being charged or anything like that?

can you tell me more about what was found? was it a baggie? a jojnt? a roach? a seed? a stem?

they found some loose in their terms "greenish brown vegetable matter" underneath the front seat...then after searching the car they found a small bag in a bookbag then they for another small bag in the trunk of the car along with a stash in a paint can...overall it was no more than 15 16 grams total but they claimed that it was 25.9 grams...the bag which they found in the trunk which was my mine only contained about .7 grams in it
