Harassed and Forced to Sign Waiver-Did I Screw Myself
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: MD

I worked for my past employer for 15 years, was never written-up, and always had good reviews. They were bought by another company who gave all the employees a contract stating we would get 3 months pay plus our medical benefits for 3 months if they were to lay us off. No problems for the first 18 months, then another manager starts harrassing me. I asked him to stop many times. He proceeds to follow me and even backed me into a corner. I report him, nothing is done. I send a written report and get the same. He finds out I reported him and decides to make up false allegations against me. Of course, his could have been easily disproved. Next thing I know, I am being told that I am being permanently laid off. They then refuse to give me the severance I am entitled to. Then they give me an agreement that would release them from any and all liability and say I have to sign it to get my severance pay that I was due already. That agreement was in writing! I think that I should not have signed it but I needed the money and health insurance. Did I just screw myself by doing this? The way this company handles things seems underhanded.

What exactly do you mean by "harassed"?

Generally speaking, if you enter into a release agreement that waives certain rights in return for something of value (e.g., severance pay), that's going to be enforceable. Did you in fact sign such a document?
