    Emancipation Rights in Canada
hey,my names chris and I'm 16.My girl lives in B.C and I'm in ontario and to be honest I hate it here in ontario(no affence to the people who live here)when I went to see my girl friend I found a place I feel more at home then I do in ontario. When I got back home my parents had a "talk" with me and they basicly told me that they want me to live my whole life in ontario which I dont want to do.I even told my parents that I rather be in Langlye in B.C then any where in the world beccause that plase is simply paradise to me.I know for a fact that I can sapport my slef and finish school, but first I need to get emancipated and in order for me to do so I need to know how so that after this school year I may back to B.C and continue my schooling there and enjoy life with my friends down there while it last.so can any one help me at all?

I have never been able to find an authoritative source for Canadian emancipation law. Consider discussing your situation with a guidance counselor at school, or a family lawyer in your province.

In Ontario, you can leave parental control at 16 years of age. You might hate this suggestion, but stick it out with your parents until you are 18. It's only two years and in a lifetime of 80+ years, it's not a big deal. If she truly loves you she'll be there for you in two years. If you decide to leave home, do not do so on bad terms. Don't go away angry. Make sure your parents know you are leaving and where you are going to be. Don't run off unacknowledged. If you do, they are going to call you in to the police as missing and the police are going to have to look for you to confirm you are safe and sound. That can be difficult if you are in BC, but it is a must, very time consuming and very wasteful of limited police resources. You are taking a big step in life if you decide to pack up Ontario for BC at 16. Really think it through. You are making an adult decision that requires adult planning, preparation and execution.
