Juvenile Retail Fraud, Second Degree
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I just recieved my court notice today. I am 17 years old-16 at the time. I was caught shoplifting at Kohls in Michigan in May of 2009. I went into the the dressing room and took things off of hangers and put into my bag. I walked out and two employees walked out behind me and asked me to step inside. They asked me while I was walking back in if I knew what this was about and I said yes. I sat down they did the normal stuff, called my mom and the police. I was arrested and brought to the station. They fingerprinted me and put in all of my information and then released me to my mom. We payed the fee to kohls when it came in the mail. Now I recieved something saying that I have a Consent Calender scheduled for November. I was just wondering what normally happens when a minor goes to that. I have no previous record. My mom said that she has a lawyer to talk to. Anyone have any advice for me as to what to do from here or what will happen?

It sounds like the court is going to do a "reality check" to see if you're on track, and staying out of trouble. I don't expect the court to be particularly inclined to exercise jurisdiction over you - although you may get a reminder that, now that you're 17, you'll be charged as an adult if you get caught again - and if they were inclined to be punitive I expect that they would have brought you in a lot sooner.
