Computer Harassment
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York, New York
I broke up with my girlfriend and we already had a court case which i lost cause i couldn't prove anything. Now im receiving subscriptions to different sites and I know it from her, plus the website gave me the IP number which it was registered from. There is another site as well, how do I go by requesting the IP address from a site and since I have to IP number from the other site can I bring this to the police as evidence of harrassment? Thank you

Re: Computer Harassment
The police can get IPs themselves. If you want to do so, you'll need to file a lawsuit and issue subpoenas. Having already lost a lawsuit, you need to move carefully - you don't want to get sanctioned.

Re: Computer Harassment
I don't know how is this harrassment, fraud maybe if your girlfriend is signing you up for subscriptions with your credit card.

Re: Computer Harassment
I would close those email accounts, and create new ones. You can report the hackers, but they will hack.
Plus, once you have created a email account, never give out that password. That password needs to be diffrent that all the rest.
You might be using the same password for too many things.

Re: Computer Harassment
You have two options:
(1) Change your passwords. Change your email addy.
(2) Try to find a lawyer who will ask for a hefty retainer of thousands of dollars to try to prove that your ex signed you up for the spam.
- Please note: The defense attorney would counter by showing that you may have signed up for one site or made a purchase on a site, which can lead to "spam".
