Court Due Date on Courtesy Notice Different Than on Ticket
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: CA
Hi,
I've received a courtesy notice with a due date that's different (further out) than the ticket. I want to take action and contest my ticket, do I have to do this before the ticket's due date or the courtesy notice's due date?
Thanks!

Call the court or check online.

You've signed the promise to appear, not the courtesy notice from the court. Unless you were properly served with a notice of correction, the date on the ticket takes precedence. One time I had that happen to me when the court decided to bump up the due date by a week and I was past the court's due date, but not the ticket deadline. I contacted the clerk and the whole matter was resolved by her putting in an extension. In your case, you're safe to use the due date printed on your courtesy notice because courts do have the discretion to grant extensions - just make sure you save the courtesy notice just in case.
Re: Court Due Date on Courtesy Notice Different Than on Ticket
just want to share my 2 cents
i have trouble reading the court date on the speed ticket, so i called the policy department that issued me the ticket. their response was to forget about the date on the ticket, just go by the date on the courtesy notice. so i probably will go by the courtesy notice.
Re: Court Due Date on Courtesy Notice Different Than on Ticket
Called the court and they said the courtesy notice date is what counts. Don't know if this holds for every court case but it probably makes sense, as the officer writes down a date just in case the courtesy notice isn't received (so we don't have an excuse for not showing up). I've observed that courtesy notice dates are further out than citation dates, so it's only good to get the notice in the email (saying you didn't get it doesn't buy you anything).
Thanks all for the help!

The police department won't be the one issuing the Failure to appear... The court will though.
Re: Court Due Date on Courtesy Notice Different Than on Ticket
FYI to bring this to closure, I've contacted the court and they said that the due date on the notice supersedes the due date on the citation. Of course, this may not be true in all cases for all I know.
