It is very fair actually. It is because of people like you that prices are as high as they are. Go ahead, don't pay the penalty. See what happens.:D.

There giving you a chance to make restitution without going to court (and keeping it off your record).

As the above poster mentioned, don’t pay it and see what happens! :D

I don't judge people who make a stupid choice and shoplift. But when they complain and refuse paying for the crime they committed, that is someone who I have NO respect for. That price is high but you don't only factor in the amount you took of $150. It is the hours of the LP who had to deal with you, help offset the price of loss, help pay for the cameras needed to catch people like you, pay the company who is seeking the money and will sue you if you don't pay it and pay for the supervisor who watches over the LP guys who caught you. Just pay the money and be a man about this. Dumb mistake and learn from it. Call it paying a "stupid tax".

They will sue you for the amount of the civil demand AND press criminal charges, which will result in more fines, court costs, possible jail time, and definitely a criminal record.

Don't be stupid. Pay the demand, and stop stealing.

Oh yes...and it could affect your credit history too. That will be great when you are looking to buy a car or rent an apartment.....

Just pay and count yourself lucky if they choose not to prosecute. Most stores do, do you know if JCP doesn't? You could get stuck with that and court fines...

JC Penney is 100% prosecution. What city did you get caught in? Work out a payment plan or try to negotiate a lower civil demand payment - like 60% if you pay in two payments.
