First Time Possession of Marijuana in Connecticut
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Connecticut.
Hello,
My friend was arrested yesterday in Connecticut with possession of Marijuana. [less than 4oz. of marijuana, 21a-279(c) ]. He has never been arrested for anything, so this would be his first offense. After talking to a few people, including a bondsman, they mentioned that CT has two programs. One being called the Accelerated Rehabilitation (AR) and other being Drug Education Program (D.E.P.). Would he be eligible for one of these? If so, does he need a lawyer to be put into one of these programs or is a lawyer not needed? His court date is October 5th. Thank you in advance for your help!
I forgot to mention, there is also a charge of 21a-279(d) (Possession of illegal drugs within 1,500 feet of an elementary or secondary school or a licensed day care center)

Your friend can consult a local criminal defense lawyer about his eligibility for ARD or DEP. He will likely be able to get a free consultation. We don't know his record.
