Online Impersonation - What Will Happen to Me
My question involves defamation in the state of: washington
about a week ago this kid egged my car and i didnt call the police cause my friends wouldnt talk to them. today i made an ad on craigslist with the kids number looking for gay sex (lol). they called the police on me, and the cops came to my door and made me delete the ad in front of them. they said i would get a letter in the mail with my court info. me and the kids are all 17 and im turning 18 in november, does that make any difference? what do you think will happen to me? i have a totally clean record and am very rattled by all this
Re: What Will Happen to Me Online Impersonation
That was stupid.
When your letter with your court date arrives, see to it that you show up for court on the appointed date. You'd do well to take an attorney along.
It sounds like you're being charged with harassment. Your charges will be read aloud in open court, and you'll be asked for a plea. If convicted, you'll likely face hefty fines, probation, and probably a no-contact order.
If you're lucky, the judge will only frown disapprovingly and shake his head. If he's in a foul temper, expect him to tell you in so many words that you're a dumbass.
Re: What Will Happen to Me Online Impersonation
thank you for your answer, although being impolite was unnecessary.
Re: Online Impersonation - What Will Happen to Me
Sugar, you asked what will happen to you. It's not my problem if you don't like the possibilities.
I promise you, if the judge ACTUALLY calls you a dumbass instead of doing so in roundabout fashion - and I've seen this happen - you'll get more of the same if whine that he's being impolite.
Re: Online Impersonation - What Will Happen to Me
Further, have you considered that the inclusion of "gay sex (lol)" may be considered a hate crime?
Gotta agree with the dumbass remark... if for no other reason that the 35 seconds it took for the cops to find you.
