Can I Sue a Parent for Theft by a Minor, $6000
One of my stores was broken into last Friday and the theives stole approx. $5000 in cell phones and broke the glass in 3 display cases (approx. $1000 in damages).

I caught the guys today when they came into one of the other cell phone stores to sell the stolen phones. What are the odds.. it's over 30 mins. away.

The guys are both minors and they had already sold most of the cell phones. One of the guys admited to the burglery to the police.

I would like to be compensated for the missing merchandise and damages. How should I proceed and what should I ask for? Should I sue the parents?

    This happened in Ohio.

    Thanks, Chris

It looks like you can recover against the parents under ORC 3109.09. You may want to start, though, by trying to get restitution through the criminal case, as it may turn out to be faster and easier for you.
