Minor Driver Cited for CVC 22350, Going 10 Over
It happened a month ago. I reside in Santa Clarita, CA, where i got pulled over. I got pulled over in a street by highway patrol, close to my house. I was going 10 over. 55 in a 45 zone.

    some info:

    22350 VC-speeding
    speed approx- 55
    max speed-45
    caught by radar

No road conditions that could have affected my driving. It was a clear sunny day. This was my first ticket.I want to know what are my choices, as in will I be able to take community service, or just pay the fine? I have to go to juvenile court in Slymar,CA.

Pay the fine. Here at Pasadena court, the fine for 1-15 over posted is $350 including court fees and paperwork fees for traffic school. I just went to court for 22350 too, and I'm 16 atm. No point in arguing, when you go, pay the fine and ask for traffic school to take off the point for speeding. Your insurance wont get raised, just dont do it again. Cop is an expert witness, and even if your argument is plausible, judge will side with the cop. No questions asked, get a radar detector next time if you live in a radar heavy area, and dont cheap out. a good one like the Valentine One, escort 9500ix, or escort redline is the price of one ticket + traffic school fees, and will save you for years to come. not only is the face value of the ticket expensive, future tickets within a year will show up as unremovable points to the insurance companies, and you rates will raise by 50% or so. and local governments strapped for cash will hand out tickets like mad to sustain themselves.

be careful next time and go to www.radardetector.net for some suggestions on detectors.

55 in a 45 is not that fast, and you could have a good case depending on time of day, visibility, and traffic conditions. Whoever wrote the reply above obviously don't know what they are talking about.

If you don't wish to contest the ticket and just pay your tax, take traffic school. Otherwise, do a search here on 22350, 22351(b), and speed trap laws. It's a lot to read, but it should be enough to get you up to speed (pun intended). The next step would be to get an extension from the clerk and request discovery for things like the copy of the ticket and the speed survey for the road you were stopped on (there are other things too, but the two items above are the most important) before you go ahead and schedule your initial appearance to enter your plea to the charge.
