Can I Be Billed on an Expired Credit Card
Hi!
I've been looking for answers and I came across this site.
Two years ago, I paid for a web hosting subscription for one year. After almost a year, the credit card I used expired. Without knowing that they auto renew by default and when the web hosting expiration came they locked my account for not paying.
One of the domains associated (not the original package) with the subscription is still alive but supposed to have expired last July.
Question is, my bank isn't issuing me any billing statement. Can the web host sue me years later for not paying the domain (or the web hosting)?
Thanks for the very big help!

Either they were paid by the credit card company, in which case they won't care if the credit card company billed you, or they weren't, in which case you still owe them the money.

Hi!
Thanks for the reply.
Who do I owe? The bank or the web host?
Can I have a debt with my bank even though my bank isn't billing me?
If I owe from web host, can they sue me?
Thanks again!
Re: Can I Be Billed in an Expired Credit Card
You would owe whomever is out the money.
If the accounts were mostly shut off, it sounds like they charge was declined. If the company left one account open, it was probably their clerical mistake.
We can't find out what happened. You know that, right? You could call the company and ask, but that may wake them up to the question of whether they should be issuing you a bill.

If the charge was declined do I still owe them money and can they sue me for it?
So I don't need to call my former bank if there's any debt on my name?
Thanks!
Re: Can I Be Billed in an Expired Credit Card
Yes you can be billed, the merchant if he had your old card with an old expiration date, simply will make up a new experation date. It will go through.
What you need to do is simply dispute the credit card charge. This is done in writing, not via phone and the exact details appear on the back of your credit card statement. It'll tell you what info to send in and why you are disputing your charge
This must be done within a certain time period, I think it is 60 days after the charge appears on your statement.
The credit card company will immediately take the charge off your credit statement and investigate. The merchant than has to prove that charge is legit. If they don't do it in a certain amount of time, you win automatically.
If they can prove it, and how can they if they don't have the correct experiation date, (unless they guessed well), you'll win the dispute
Remember do it in writing, do NOT CALL, you can call but you must do it in writing to preserve your rights.

Hi!

There is no statement being issued to me anymore. The card expired last July.
Here's another question if you may, since there is no statement being issued to me by my old bank because my card had expired, I assume I have no debt to my old bank. Is that correct?
Thanks!

Correct. But why do you think you owe anyone anything? If the bank is not sending you a bill, nor the service you subscribed to, then the service probably cancelled your service when its request for payment was declined and that's that.
If you are going to write anyone, I'd write the service. But, I think they would have already contacted you if you stilled owed them something.
