Is Emancipation Necessary
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Oklahoma and Texas
I am 15 and pay for most of my things but not the bills. My current job is 6 months of the year and I live with my grandparents in Oklahoma but my mom lives in Texas. I have a friend in Florida who's parents have said I could move in with them. I am thinking about doing that next year. Will I have to emanciapated or will my mom have to sign me over and I don't fully understand the laws for emancipation in OKlahoma? And what if I move in with my mom? What are the laws in Texas for emancipation?
Re: Is Emancipation Necessary
At 15 you cannot be emancipated in any of the states you mention, nor can you be emancipated at any age in any state unless you are 100% self supporting. Who is your legal guardian?

You can look up state emancipation laws in the thread stickied at the top of this forum. Oklahoma's emancipation law won't do what you want, and you don't qualify under Texas law (even if we pretend that you're in Texas).
If your mom gives you permission to live with somebody else, and she's your sole custodial parent, she can do that - just like she did when she let you live with your grandparents. Your Florida friend's parents may need legal guardianship in order to enroll you in school without paying tuition, and would require at a minimum power of attorney so that they could authorize medical care if necessary.
