Re: Emancipation
No. Not as you have described it. At 16 in your state, you have to be ALREADY living on your own before emancipation will be considered. And regardless of your age, living with your cousin and her family does not count as being self-sufficient for emancipation purposes.
EVERY teen thinks that their parents do not understand what they are going through. It's part of being a teenager. That is not even close to being a valid reason for emancipation.

Re: Emancipation
I need someone's help to get out of my house. I live in Ohio and I am 17 1/2 years old. I will be 18 on November 3rd. I am currently in a household situation that is unstable. My mom calls the cops on me basically for breathing the wrong way. I have a place to go, a job this coming Monday, and a way to school. I am curious as to how I can go about getting on my own without waiting 6 months for this to happen. My home is unstable, my mom has shown her true colors to officers by throwing her hand back at me and grabbing me. She will not let me eat food because she said I can buy my own because its her food. I can't do that because she won't et me out of this house. I have a legal gurdian who has a place to live and can help with everything. I have court tomorrow and I am not sure how things will go. I need help trying to figure it out. Mom says the judge wil be on her side and I can't handle it. I cannot live with her; the constant yelling and hitting is ridiculous. Please email me..I need help..tonight!!!

Re: Emancipation
Even if you started the process tomorrow, by the time you had all the court hearings, psychological evaluations, and testimony of witnesses before the judge, you'd already BE 18 before the petition could be granted. (And without already HAVING a 6 months job history, the petition is worthless anyway...courts don't care about what you PLAN to happen, they demand a solid track record of what you've already DONE...and if you're 17 1/2 and haven't started working yet, then there is no possible way to show a court that you are ALREADY self supporting). Not. Going. To. Happen.
