Can I Live with My Girlfriend when She Gets on Parole
This is relating to parole law in Missouri.
I received a Class A Misdemeanor for possession of less than 35g of marijuana back in 11/2004. My girlfriend is getting out of prison soon on parole and we'd like to live together but I have a concern.
The Missouri Department of Corrections guide to understanding Probation and Parole states:
Quote:
as a condition of probation, parole and conditional release offenders are prohibited from association with any person convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, or with anyone currently under the supervision of the Division of Probation and Parole without advance permission from their Probation and Parole Officer. It is the offender’s responsibility to know with whom they are associating.
Naturally an offender may come into contact with family members or co-workers who have been convicted of felonies, misdemeanors or that are currently on supervision. However, that does not mean they need to associate after hours or outside their place of residence or treatment program with those individuals. Advance permission from the Probation and Parole Officer is required before the offender associates with any of these individuals.
I'm hoping the parole officer would grant her to live with me even though I've had this misdemeanor. I was always under the assumption that parolees couldn't interact with other FELONS. I was shocked to see that they can't interact with someone who has had even a misdemeanor. This would mean a parolee couldn't interact with anyone who has even had a speeding ticket. I guess I'll have to wait until she's appointed a parole officer to find out from him/her but I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what their outcome was.
I'm trying to lessen my worry I suppose. I won't find out who her parole officer is for about another month but I'd like to know how often a parole officer would allow a parolee to live with their significant other if all they've had is a misdemeanor.

Other people's outcomes are going to have no bearing on your girlfriend's outcome. It's handled case by case.
Some POs are hardasses, some aren't. The only thing you can do is speak with her PO when one is assigned. Anything else is idle speculation, and won't help you.
