Unsanitary Living Could Cause Death, Raise Questions
Arizona. My health is being seriously risked due to LandLords ignorance and neglect because several creatures reside and died in the wall voids and attic. Killer Bees, mice, snakes, gecko, flies and maggots. Where the baseboard meets the carpet is a good 3/4" gap, so I caulked it to stop the bees from finding a way into the apartment. A week later, maggots everywhere! I wish that was an exaggeration.

Not only do the bees continue to destroy the structure turning walls yellow, honey sweating through the walls. From under the baseboards comes honey and these maggots are infesting and destroying the carpet and my life. Something had to have died in the wall because the 20' X 12' room is all maggots. I get sick every night with the 'D' word and all of my food is contaminated. The honey is ruining my clothes turning everything yellow.

LL tried to hide the infestation from me. Lucky for me I am not working, and saw a man in a bee suit going to the back yard. I followed him and he was treating the utility box that was covered in bees.

I was never warned of the bees existance and think it is something to be informed about. Last year a circuit switch needed replaced and the electrician said there were thousands of dead bees on the ground and was uncomfortable while he changed the switch.

When I complained about it last year, he said I brought the maggots with me and refused to allow an inspection of the attic and walls. The odor is masked with gallons of Mr Clean. He tried to terminate the lease after I complained, but like an idiot I stayed not realizing dead creatures were the cause.

Isn't there any law against him not informing me when it affects my health?

I am a sitting duck. In between jobs, no money to pay for substitute housing or relatives/friends to stay with, I have to let LL respond in 5 days, which I know him, he won't, but his annual ignorance and neglect is going to cost him dearly.

Is it legal for him to continue allowing the destruction of this house because of this unsanitary condition?

Should I call the health department so he won't jepordize another renters health? after I move?

Does he legally have to correct the problem or evict everyone in the house once health dept finds out?

Can I recover my expenses that were incurred, cleaning supplies, bug spray, ruined food, shoes, clothes, personal belongings TV, VCR, BED and bedding, everything is now ruined because maggots go to hide inside?

The lease said I am responsible for damage to the Apartment, except normal wear and tear. This is not my fault!

What about my cat? She got sick and I had to put her to sleep. I think it was due to the unhealthy living conditions.

My other cat needs to be checked out, too. I don't want her to die either.

What about my medical? It sounds like it will cost me over $5,000.00 so it is not a small claims situation.

    HELP :x

    Apartment is Infested
You should contact the health department now, for your own sake.

You should also check with your landlord to see if he will still let you out of your lease and, if so, move. You should contact local social services agency to see if you can get emergency assistance, and should contact the local legal aid office to see if you qualify for assistance with your landlord-tenant problems.
