Cell Phones Confiscation By an Employer
I have the same issue in Washington State however it really surprises me that it is Legal for an employer confiscate private property IE my cell phone. they are sending me home if I refuse to give them my cell phone and I don't trust them to not go through my Private Information while they are "holding" my cell phone.
I am prepared to leave my phone at home while on this job because as I said "I don't trust them", however, I cannot see how it is Legal for them to confiscate my cell phone if I happen to Bring it with me.
I have never used it while working and have no plan to, other employees have used theirs at all times while working.
So is it really Legal for an Employer to Confiscate Personal Private Property?

What does the company's policy say with respect to cell phones? It's the employer's right to enforce its policy - if you don't like the policy, leave the cell phone at home or in your car.
This is not an unusual policy, particularly in certain science or security settings. I know a number of people employed in the aerospace and defense industries who work under such policies. The cell phones stay in the car during working hours.
