Oregon MIP, First Offense
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon
I just got an MIP in Lake Oswego, Or. This is my first MIP and I am about 4 months away from turning 21. I have no problem with paying the fine, as I was a minor in possession of alcohol. My problem comes with getting my license suspended. I need my car at college. If this is my first citation (no tickets, anything), will I get my license suspended if I plead guilty and send in the money required? Also, if I plead guilty and send in the fine will I have the option to do the Diversions course?
Thanks for any help.
Re: Oregon MIP, First Offense
Consult a local lawyer about the terms of any available diversion programs. Generally speaking, if you send in the fine you end up with a conviction, not diversion.
Re: Oregon MIP, First Offense
Didn't Oregon just pass the "No Tolerance" law for MIP? If it did, and I think it did, then the judge will suspend it till you are 21. You will be able to get a work license, allowing you to drive to and from work and a company vehicle if you are at work. You have to contact motor vehicles division for that.
