Is it Illegal to Record Somebody in Canada
Okay so i was recently accused of something i didnt do in CANADA...and this woman left a message on my answering machine in the states saying things like, "you better get ur fu*cking son out of this country, u better get that fu*cking shi*thead son of yours out of here". to me, thats harassment. Now if this woman decides to go on with her case, can i record what she left on my answering machine and use it in court??? Or if she calls me, can i record what she says and use it against her in court??

    Recording phone calls in Canada.
I understand Canada, at least federally, to apply a one-party consent law, which means that a conversation can be recorded by any participant without notice to the other parties. There may be variation by province.

As a person leaving a phone message knows she is being recorded, the recording is generally regarded as having been made with the consent of the person leaving the message.
