Giving Liquor to Minors
I was stopped the other day by an undercover cop and written a ticket for attempting to contribute (liquor) to minors. He said this is a felony in Oklahoma...he told me he was going to ask me some questions and if I lied to him, he would haul me off to jail. I answered everything he asked, he gave me the ticket, and I was on my way. Today I paid the ticket ($540 was what the cop wrote, but they told me $240 at the court). My main concern is how this will effect my record. I asked the lady when I paid the ticket and she said that the court isn't one of public record. It sounded like the only people that would ever see the conviction would be the government. How is this going to affect job applications? My right to vote? etc.?
Thank you for your time.

It depends on the charge. If you were ticketed for a civil infraction, the result isn't likely to be much more significant than a traffic ticket. If it was a misdemeanor, a guilty plea would result in a criminal record.
Misdeneanor convictions don't affect your right to vote.

The charge on the ticket was "attempt to distribute to a minor." I paid the $240 and plead No-Contest. So you believe this will just be considered an infraction? What in this situation would this charge have been a felony as the officer stated?

Charge
You aren't giving enough information to discern if it is a misdemeanor or civil infraction. Given that it was a ticketed offense, it would ordinarily be one or the other.

I apologize, that was all that was written on the ticket. The only thing the officer saw was a minor giving me money before I went into the liquor store. I came out, got in my car...that's when he stopped me. My main concern was that it would be a felony like the officer mentioned and the implications of that on my record. Since you say it will be a misdemeanor at worst, I'll be able to sleep better at night. Thank you for your time and quick responses. I think it's great you are willing to help others in such a way.
