My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
Hello,
I really need advice. Friday evening I was out at McDonalds (I had not eaten at all that day) and pulled slow to the stop sign to exit the parking lot. I had 3 Coors Light and a 1/2 a "Sparks" approx. 2 hours prior to going to McDonalds. A car hit me as I was pulling to the stop sign (backed up into my bumper) and I called the cops to make a police report. I CALLED THE COPS. IDIOT. I did not feel even 'buzzed', but after the cops took the report, one asked if he could do a field sobriety test b/c he smelled beer. I said, "No problem". They did and I passed. They asked If I'd just blow into the breathalyzer and I said, "Sure". I did not think anything would come up beyond the legal limit. It did, (they said "close to twice the legal limit but did not tell me exactly.) I cooperated and was NOT belligerent. They took me to the LA county jail and then did another breathalyzer. Again, I do not know what it was. I was transferred to the Van Nuys County jail and told I had a warrant(for a subway ticket I evaded 5 years ago, I didn't even know it was on my record). So, my parents had to bail me out, that was 10% of $30,365.00. I am now terrified of not having a license and do not know if I should get an attorney or not. PLEASE, if anyone has been through this, has any advice, or can point me to the right direction, I would be so grateful. To top all of this nightmare off, I am a Social Worker and will probably never get a job in my field again. Also, I am planning on Going to medical school beginning in '10. PLEASE HELP. What can I expect??????
Regards,
Bre
