Pay the County or the Collection Agency
My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Florida.
I received a notice in the mail last week that a parking ticket had gone to collection. I wasn't aware of any ticket, but when I checked the county website, there it was. It was from November 2008 and had been sold to a collection agency. There is still the option to pay the ticket through the county website. Who should I pay? The county or the collection agency?
Thank you.
Re: Pay the County or the Collection Agency
Generally, once a debt is sold to a collection agency, the original creditor has no authority to accept payment, and all payment must be sent to the CA.
However, not all debt collected by CAs has been actually sold to CAs.
Check with the county to see if the debt was actually sold, or if the CA is simply being contracted to collect.
Re: Pay the County or the Collection Agency
Thank you, Missy. I'll call the county.
