Au Pair Visa to Student Visa Approval Rate While Still in the U.S.
Hello. We have an au pair in her second extension year, visa status expires 8 September 2009. We have applied for a student visa for her to stay and go to school. We were sent a request for evidence letter (this is what they tell us on website) but it never arrived. They are now to send another, but say it could take 45 days, which will be too late to re-submit evidence and get a response before school starts 28 August. What do you suggest we do? Plan that the visa will not get approved and send her home to reapply in the Philippines? Or do we go ahead and start/pay for school assuming the visa will get approved? Is she technically required to return to her home country after the au pair visa, or have you seen it be ok to still change the status while they are still in the US?

Her school likely has an advisor who assists students with their immigration and visa problems. A good place to start would be to find out if her school offers immigration and visa assistance and, if so, for her to schedule an appointment.

Thanks for responding. Have you heard of the au pair visa being changed status to a F-1 with success or do they frequently get denied?
