    Legal Actions Against Internet Slander
I would like to inform myself regarding the possible legal actions that can be undertaken against slander over the internet. A friend of mine has been victemised and this is what happened.

A old friend of her who she stopped seeing because them not getting along hacked into her email account about one year ago. From there he obtained her email addresses, passwords from websites she visited including social network sites like facebook. He also obtained erotic pictures and erotic mail that was intended for her boyfriend serving his country overseas. After she changed her phone number because of his repeated calls he somehow managed to obtain access to her new number. Ignoring his texts of him threatening to send out the erotic mails along with the pictures he finaly did. Here is a list of the things he did.
    - Sent out mail to her relatives and friends with erotic mails and pictures.
    - Create a facebook account and a number of other social networking sites in her name with "call this number for sex"
    - Set up erotic websites showing her pictures along with pictures of a girl that looks very similar to her engaged in sexual acts. Then link those sites to her family

The email addresses he sent them out to include minors (cousins, nephews and neices ) The emotional damage is considerable. What are the legal actions that can be undertaken and what kind of a timespan would we be talking about for something to effectively prevent him from causing more damage.

How can you prove that he did any of this, other than your allegation? If she ever sent those "erotic" pictures of herself over the internet, it's fair game. Your reasonable expectation of privacy is greatly diminshed when you start e-mailing things or storing things on the web. Mailing erotic pictures to family members, that this girl willingly took, is perfectly legal. If she was so worried about her anonymity...she shouldn't be sending "erotic" photos of herself overseas to individuals who are in the military (you don't think Uncle Sam sometimes checks into these e-mails?).

However, his activity may possibly amount to "stalking" or "criminal harassment", but he would need to be doing a lot more than just mailing things. The bottomline, prove it was him. If you can directly link him to these activities...you can then began seeking professional help (civil suit attorney, or possibly the police).

It's an unfortunate series of events, because I not agree that this person should be sending these exotic pictures to her family. It's very immature. But, on the legal side, there isn't really much she can do, but hold her head up high and carry herself with dignity.
