My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland
Ok where should I start.
About a week ago I was drinking liquor and went into a blackout. During this blackout, my car keys were in my right pocket, so I proceeded to operate a vehicle. We'll call it my jaguar. During this blackout I felt I had decent control of the way I was driving. I kept it slow, and I wasn't perticularly swurving. It was a blast, really. Later among driving I noticed a pack of deer were crossing the road. I then drove into the field (soy) chasing them, for about a half of a mile. While exiting the farm I bottomed out, losing my oil pan, and drove for another 3 miles. My jaguar sounded like it was breaking down, and the smell of the front engine was hot. The car broke down. I had to walk home. I never thought of it again. 3 days later I'm woken up by my mother and the sheriff. He said that they know I drove through the field 2 miles from my house, and that I did 300 dollars worth of damage to the soy. The whole time he was explaining this to me I had just woken up and was trying to remember this happening at all. I couldn't. He told me that they linked me to the oil pan, because the car was broken down. The Sheriff didn't arrest me, but he asked me questions for his report. One of them was " Were you doing any drinking that night?" I said "no" "were you with anybody?" "no" then he said that it was too late to do anything about that. I think he was trying to get me to state that I was drinking, for use in court. So he explains that the farmer seems nice and may or may not press charges. He left, and i didn't think I'd ever see him again. he comes back an hour later and I hear him tell my mom that I was going to be charged, but the farmer knew me somehow and had a lot of hay to bail and he could use some help. The sherrif said if you make him happy you're going to be happy. OK my question is, if the farmer doesn't press charges how am I still going to be charged? who's charging me? SO far I've put about 2 days of hay bailing and my freetime in apology for what I did to the farm. I know that the farmers not going to press. But he said that if there's a court date he'll stand up and speak with the judge and explain that I helped. Do you think that him doing that will help me in trial for what I'm facing?
Also, is it possible I loose my liscence?
and this is in traffic court not criminal court right?
