Extended UI in California
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
Here's something I found out today about extended UI benefits. My UI ($450) ran out in Feb 09; I applied and received the 1st extension, again, $450. During the time, however, I've been working part time, which is a good thing, or so I thought...
Now that my 1st extension is complete, EDD created a new claim BASED ON MY PART-TIME WORK, and the federal extension no longer applies. I'm now eligible for $52 dollars a week. Once that runs out (which will be never, since I earn more than that each week) I would then be eligible for federal extension money round two.
I'm appealing, but on what basis can I appeal? It seems contrary to common sense to penalize someone for working part time (different field) while looking. Is it possible, for instance, that the Federal UI can supplement the State UI?

On the one hand, I agree it doesn't seem logical. But on the other hand(s), 1-who ever said the law was logical and 2-it could have been worse and there could have been no extensions at all.
I don't know of any basis under which you could appeal. If the EDD can't tell you, I'm honestly not sure. Of course, the problem is actually talking to someone at the EDD these days, I understand.:wallbang:
