Emancipation

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Virginia

I will be turning 16 on August 2,2009. I have been told that I have to have my drivers license and a car and a place to live already set up before I am able to be emancipated. Is that true? I also recieve a check each month from where my dad is a retired military member and where he is on social security am I still goin to recieve this check? I would like to be emancipated because I have grown up in a bad home with drugs and drinking and have not had a good childhood my mom is currently in prison and I am the one taking care of everything in my house and heloping support everyone I am tired of this!!

Why in the world would YOU get a check because your father is retired military?

It sounds like it's probably Social Security disability, not a military benefit as such.

I will say that "I have too many chores" is not usually a good excuse for emancipation.

It is not that I have "too many chores" I play the parent role in my house they are not chores I clean the whole house by myself, cook dinner every night, do all the laundry, help pay the bills, work, and support everyone else those are not chores it is me having to be like at parent at 15 and I have checked with my dad about those checks and he says they are both social security and retired military benefits I've seen the statements from both places when they raise they amounts of the checks every now and then but what I was wondering was if I get emancipation will I still recieve these? and what are the requirements for emancipation?

That would be the definition of a list of chores.

Ones that you will be doing ANYWAY if you are emancipated. See how that won't impress a judge?

It just doesn't work when kids say, "They make me take care of a house and the laundry so I want to get away from them and live on my own."

When you get emancipated, these payments will, most likely, stop. They are to care for a minor... you will no longer be one.
