After My Trial
Involves the State of California:
Well, I appeared in court with my friend. Our case was group together. It was pretty quick. I went in to check in and told me which department to go to then had to wait another 30mins to get in. Once we got inside we had to fill out some papers asking for our financial stuff like how much we pay for rent, food, clothing and whatnot. Then we get assigned to attorneys who talk about our case like what happened and pull up the police report and ask why we did it, she answered for us. Then they ask us if we plea guilty(we did). Made us sign papers saying we understand what we did and that we gave up our right to a speedy trial and whatnot. She asked if we wanted to do community service and we said yes. The court fees were 593, but the judge said he'd take out 293 and asked how we gonna pay the rest and he gave us community service as an option, which is GREAT, so we just had to pay attorney fees and have to report to a police station for booking and release this sunday to take our fingerprints and picture. Judge said that after 18months we could ask to get our probation terminated. So right now, we just have to do 30hrs in a non-profit organization to pay off our $300 for court fees. The judge was really nice and understanding. So we just have to remain getting out of trouble for 18months and then we could get our misdemeanor expunged instead of the 3yrs. So it is out of our public record, but still in our private govt record.
Now I feel a lot better. 18months should fly by.
