Burglary

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland

My situation is simple, the police got a warrant to search my house for stolen items (i.e. guns, electronics etc.) and they ended up coming across a laptop hidden in my house that I had no knowledge of. That laptop just so happened to be stolen so later when that was discovered I was picked up on a warrant but I bailed out. The thing is I had no idea that it was in my home and no clue that it was stolen. My friend left it because they had to leave suddenly but thats all I know, again, I had no idea it was left until after the police found it because I assumed they took it with them. They said they would tell whom it may concern that they left it but I'm still worried! How can I be charged when I didn't even know it was stolen nor did I know it was in my home? Might I add that sadly I'm a felon already of 1st Degree Assault. My charges are as follows:

Burglary-First Degree
Burglary-Fourth Degree Theft
Theft: $500 Plus Value

Can anyone tell me at least maybe what my chances are of beating this?

Sorry friend, the expert law crystal ball is out of order.

First, you have been overcharged. You have been charged with burglary.
They did not charge you with possession of stolen propoerty.

There is more here than meets the eye.

Often people are over charged to get them to plead down. However, if you are overcharged by using the wrong crime, or in other words a crime they can not possibly prove, then it might be worth fighting rather than pleading.
You need an attorney to find out what the evidence is and the basis of the charges.

Usually people plead out because they are in jail. It looks like you are out on bail so the pressure is off.

You need to hire an attorney or get a public defender if you qualify.

Also, pretty stupid not to know what was in your house.

You're asking us to make predictions. We are not possessed of the ability to do so.

We have no access to your case, no idea why the police got the warrant to begin with, no way of knowing if this "friend" is real, no access to your prior record, no information about any extenuating circumstances, and you want us to tell you if you have any chance of beating your charges?

Are you serious?

Buddy, you need to be talking to a criminal defense lawyer, not asking the internet for odds.

The only prediction I will make is your "friends" will not testify in court that they left it in your home, as that would then make them the ones who stole it. Get new more law abiding friends.
