Old utility bill threatens existing service
I recently bought a trailer and had the power transfered over into my name. 3 weeks later(today) I find out it was never transfered and the previous owner is hysterical about the bill. I called the power company and they said I had a previous bill from 7 years ago and it had to be paid first. $400+. I can't afford that and why have they waited until now? Can they make me pay and cut my service now if I don't?

Presumably they have waited until now because this is the first time in seven yeras you have tried to have a power account under your name. If the service is not in your name, is being cut off, and they won't give you a new account due to the arrearage, then yes, your power will be cut off.

Have you considered asking if they will let you open an account and make payments toward the arrearage? You should also look into emergency assistance programs in your county, as you may qualify for help with the arrearage.

I have had power in my name for the last 4 years from the same company. I just recenty had it transfered from one residence to the other.
How can they wait until now to say anything.
