Applicants for L1 visas must have been employed for at least one year within the past three years prior to the submission of the application of the L1 visa. They must be coming to the U.S. to continue providing services for that same employer. Also, they must be working in a capacity as a manager, executive or in a position that requires specialized knowledge. L1A visas are for managers or executives; L1B visas are for specialized-knowledge employees who have knowledge pertaining to products, services or markets, or company processes and procedures, that can be obtained only through experience with that employer and that is important to the competitiveness of the company.
