    My daughter wants emancipation.
My daughter, who is 15, is looking into emmancipation. Her father and stepmother have recently moved her to Colorado. I live in California. She is unhappy there, and cannot pursue her career goals until she turns 18 and moves out of her father's house. She had lived with me last year for a while, but had some emotional issues, and her father threatened not to help with her care if I did not send her back to him. I am currently disabled, unemployed, and waiting for social security, so I cannot afford a large enough place to give her a room of her own. Her father and her stepmother will NEVER sign emmancipation papers. Is there some way she can get around this? We are confused as to what to do.

    Emancipation in Colorado
Colorado does not appear to have a statutorily defined procedure for emancipation. It recognizes emancipation in its statutes:
    Quote:

    Quoting Colorado Code 19-1-103. Definitions
    (45) "Emancipated juvenile", as used in section 19-2-511, means a juvenile over fifteen years of age and under eighteen years of age who has, with the real or apparent assent of the juvenile's parents, demonstrated independence from the juvenile's parents in matters of care, custody, and earnings. The term may include, but shall not be limited to, any such juvenile who has the sole responsibility for the juvenile's own support, who is married, or who is in the military.

In order to qualify as emancipated under that statute, at a minimum you would have to be at least fifteen years old and living independently of your parents.
