Possession of Marijuana - Lost Papers in Mail, Arrest Warrant
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I was on a road trip the first of January when we were pulled over for front window tinting. The driver didn’t have his insurance info and we ended up getting the car impounded and searched. My friend and I received a possession ticket for weed less than 1 ounce. One month later we drove out to the county where we were cited in, which is over 250 miles away, and appeared in court and pelted guilty. We agreed to enroll in PC 1000 drug class and were on our way home. I received the packet of info shortly after and completed the paperwork and mailed it in as soon as I could. My friend mailed his in late.
About one month later I received a phone call from the court house claiming they did not receive my paperwork. I explained what I did (paperwork) and how I mailed it two weeks before the deadline. Another month went by and I called the court wonder what is going on and they said I have an arrest warrant. Everything was good for my friend he had nothing wrong.
It’s now nearing the end of school and I cannot miss any days. Once school ended I called once again and found out I had a bench warrant. I was ordered to appear in court in April but I was NEVER notified which lead to the bench warrant. I have no car and could not get a ride until now. I have plans to be in court tomorrow or next Tuesday. This whole year has been such a nightmare. I desperately need advise. Thank you.
