Employer Not Listed at Ides
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Illinois
My small non-profit employer recently went out of business. I worked there 3 years as an employee. I also work part time (8 hrs/week) at a retail store. I went to IDES local office to file for benefits. I was told that I could not get benefits from the non-profit because they were not on their list of my employers. The IDES clerk thought my employer probably failed to pay UI insurance. The clerk did say I would get benefits from my part time employer. After getting home and looking into this, I don't understand what IDES is doing. I don't understand why benefits from my primary employer are being denied based on their error? How can my part-time employer be on the hook, when I still work their? Also, since the benefits they approved are on a small salary base, my benefits will be much smaller than the should be. Is the clerk an idiot? How do I get this fixed?
Re: Employer Not Listed at Ides
What kind of work did the non-profit do? Certain type of non-profits are exempt from UI contributions.
