Security Deposits After Change of Co-Tenants
My question involves a security deposit in the State of: Florida
Here is my situation...I moved into a house with 5 other guys a few years ago and we all put down our portion of the security deposit(600 each). The lease was for a year and when it expired, 2 of us had to move. They found 2 other people to replace us and they signed a new month to month contract. They just kept that original security deposit in place. To this day(about 1 year later), I still have not received my deposit back because they just keep getting new people in the house anytime someone moves out. I am not even on the lease anymore. What can I do here? Someone please help. Thanks

    Re: Security Deposit
What does the lease you signed say about the return of the security deposit when you move? What did your landlord say when you asked about getting your share returned?

    Re: Security Deposit
Send a letter to the landlord pointing out that he is holding your security deposit and request that it be returned. He can then collect a secutiry deposit on the current lessees. However, if you did not conduct a walkthrough at the time you vacated he could hold you liable for any damages done even after you moved out because there's no way to establish when something occurred without a walkthrough.
