My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan. A few days ago i was smoking in a parking lot when a police car pulled up next to me. I arrested when the officer smelled marijuana in my car. I admitted that i had marijuana and he then drove me home. I just want to know what is going to happen to me. Also should i get a lawyer and how much should i expect to pay.
As a first offender - assuming you are a first offender, since you don't know what to expect, you may be eligible for conditional release, which will allow you to opt for probation, and have a clean record upon successful completion.
It's always a bad idea to go to court without representation. Attorney fees vary, but I'd be surprised if the fee for a case of this sort was much more than $500. Check with attorneys in your area - first visit is usually free.
