Roommate - Excuses Not to Pay Rent
My question involves a roommate in the State of: Florida.
On April 27th, a roommate/friend moved in with me. As a courtesy (she was going through some hardships), I didn't charge her for moving in a few days before May 1st. No downpayment requested. We agreed that she would pay first 1/2 rent on the first of each month and the last half on the 15th of every month. May's rent was paid as agreed.
Now, for June, she said she couldn't pay the first 1/2 of the rent and mentioned that she had other things to pay as a priority (over the rent). She doesn't know how much she can give me on the 15th. I'm a struggling single mother of 2 young girls and can't afford to carry her. She's single with no children to worry about. She only pays only $325/mth, for a room, utilities incl., free washer/dryer, etc.).If she continues to pay late or does not meet her rent payment obligations, what are my rights and what can I do about it? Notes: I rent from the landlord with no lease. My roommate and I have a verbal rental agreement.
Thanking you ahead of time for yoru help...Monica

Re: Roommate - Excuses Not to Pay Rent
While verbal agreements are certainly enforceable, it's a lot easier if you get something in writing. So do that.
If she continues to not pay as agreed, you then serve her with a three day notice to vacate, and initiate formal eviction proceedings.
