My question involves criminal law for the state of: Alabama
I am 17 years old, and currently stay with my grandmother. Although, my mother still holds custody of me. I wished to spend time with one of my sisters and my younger brother this past sunday, so i asked permission from my mother and picked them up from my mothers house. My fiance was with me and we entered the house to get them, then immediately left. We were under supervision of both of them while we were in the house.
On tuesday my mother contacted me inquiring about her missing laptop, camera, and cell phone. I told her i had not seen them and that was the end of it, or so i thought. Yesterday evening my mother came to the place i was staying and accused me of the theft of her laptop, stating that she had evidence that my fiance and I had taken it from her house. We did not take this laptop but she has threatened us with criminal charges. I was wondering what i needed to expect and what she could do. There should be no evidence against us seeing as we were not the ones to take it. But she is saying that it happened at the time we entered the house to get my sister and brother.
My fiance is 22 years old and i was wondering what she would be able to do to us. Can she have us arrested with no evidence, and if she can how long would we be in jail.
Thank you,
