Is There Any Way for Me to Get Emancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: arkansas
ive had the same boyfriend for 3 years and im 14, ill be 15 july 18th my boyfriend is 16 and about 2 weeks pregnant and my grandmother (my guardian) doesnt know but my boyfriend and my mom do.
the other day i asked her what she would do if i got pregnant and she said id make you have an abortion. and i said well i dont belive in abortions its against everything i belive in. i dont think that a baby should be punished for its parents mistakes.
and ever since then we have been fighting about stuff nd this morning she tried to hit me and i didnt hit her back, shes threating to burn the house down because insurance doesnt cover arsen and said that she doesnt care if i have a place to live or not, and now she is trying to keep my boyfriend away from me at all costs. she turned off my phone, took my car (i have a hardship) and well took basicaly everything. shes 68 years old and too old to be raising a grandchild..especialy a pregnant one. my dad also lives here but he is an alcholic and he gets very mean when he is drunk which isnt safe and i think my grandma might be having mental problems. and i know that in arkansas you cant be emancipated until your 16 but is there any way i can be emancipated and go live with my mom for my safety and my unborn childs saftey as well? my mom has been trying to get my grandmother to give her custody since i was 5 and wehn i talked to her about it and told her everytihng she said tht shed sign the papers for me and my boyfriend to be married if i lived there, i wnat to go live there and my grandomther said if i do then shell make sure my mom gets put in jail for not paying child support even though she cant afford it because my 17 year old brother lives with her. some one please help me soon! :( i really need to get out of here this is mentaly abusing me and making me sick.

Emancipation doesn't involve living with your Mom.
If your Mom wants to have custody of you, she needs to take it back to court.

my mom cant really afford to go to court about it because she cant afford a lawyer and my grandmother already said that shed have her put in jail for not paying child suppoert but shes taking care of my 17 yr old brother too. shes a good mom, she really is and i miss her alot. i just need to get out of here for my safty and my unborn childs saftey, mentaly and physicaly and legaly( if my grandma hits me my reflexs are to hit back in defense) my dad is an alcholic, she wont take her meds and i think shes getting mental problems. that is the only way i can go live with my mom is if i become emancipated because she cant affrod to go to court over custody.

The only state that will even consider emancipating a 14 year old is California, and even in California to be emancipated that young you'd better be either a successful child actor or a nationally known sports figure. And even then it's not guaranteed; google Lee Ann Rimes.
So no, there is no possible way for you to be emancipated. Additionally, the fact that you are pregnant means that even if you were old enough, which you are not, your chances of emancipation are just about at zero since it would be so much more difficult for you to meet the qualifications.
Re: Is There Any Way for Me to Get Emancipated
so its hopeless unless my mom can get the money to go to court and even then it wont do any good.

Emancipation is hopeless, yes.
Re: Is There Any Way for Me to Get Emancipated
bleh. :'( there is only one other option and id end up in more trouble adn it wouldnt turn out good for anyone and is dumb. so im wasting my time....
how old do u have to be to choose who you want to live with?
Re: Is There Any Way for Me to Get Emancipated
18.
Prior to that, a court may take your wishes into consideration, but you do not get to choose for yourself until you are no longer a minor.
Re: Is There Any Way for Me to Get Emancipated
gah by the time im 18 itll be pointless. ill already be in college.

A couple more things you need to know:
In your state, a female under 16, or a male under 17, needs more than parental consent to marry, they need a court order. So it's not enough for your mother to "sign for you" - both you and your boyfriend need permission of the court to marry EVEN IF both sets of parents give consent.
You're not going to like this, but as far as keeping your boyfriend away from you, well, I'd do the same thing if you were my daughter. And most parents would feel the same way. Good for you for not taking the easy answer of abortion, I'm not saying that. You're taking responsibility for your actions and that's good; many kids your age or even much older won't do that. But that doesn't mean that you aren't far too young for the life you're looking at, and that's true no matter how mature for your age you may be.
If you want to live with your mom I hope you get to. But fourteen is a lot younger than fourteen thinks it is, and I think most parents here would be looking at restraining orders about now.
