Boyfriend caught shoplifting a $20 game
My boyfriend was caught shoplifting a $20 game from Walmart in January. He's all ready had his hearing and the judge sent him to the probation office to get his past history. The judge classified it as a Class A misdemeaner. Is he going to go to jail because of a $20 game? I'm just so terrified about all of this. What's going to happen to him?

This is his first offence and he is 18 years old. He's still in high school and will be graduating in June. What chances does he have?

If this is his first offence then no jail but Fine, probation and some community service. Ask for a public defender and he can get you a deal so that your record is clean i.e. this offence will not appear on his record after he completes his probation.

Diversion programs and delayed sentences are not universally available, but definitely should be explored. (That is, it isn't always possible to avoid a criminal conviction.)
