Can I Get Married to Get Away From My Parents
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Florida
I am 17 years old and I am about to begin my senior year in high school. My family is soon to be moving to North Carolina but I would rather not go. I have a good job, my own transportation, and a place to live. My parents always force religion on me and tell me where to go to college and what I can go for and what i can't, but it's my future I want to do what makes me happy. Me and my 21 year old boyfriend want to get married and I want to stay with him. Can I get emancipated with out my parents consent? Or can I get married without my parents consent? someone please help me!:(
Re: Can I Get Married to Get Away From My Parents
Florida requires parental consent for marriage, and for emancipation - in fact for emancipation the petition must be FILED by the parents. If parents say no, it's no. When you're 18 you can choose the religion of your choice, or no religion at all, and can live with whoever you want, wherever you want. You could attempt these processes in North Carolina, but they basically have same requirements, if parents object, there's no point. You can BF will just have to hope it's endless love and wait until you're 18 for marriage OR for parental consent.
