I have a 17yr old child who has runaway from home 6 times. This has been going on since she was 13 yrs old. She has left again. I know that if we make our child come back home she won't stay. How can we relinquish our parental rights? We don't want to be financally or legally responable for any crimes or issues that she would cause. What actions can we take?

I am not sure that there are any easy answers for you. You can try to work through the state Department of Human Services, or try to initiate proceedings in the juvenile court, to make your daughter a ward of the state (although should that happen you may have to pay child support to the state until your daughter turns 18). A local family lawyer may be able to provide suggestions.
I'm having the same problem. My daughter left home on her 17th birthday. We had her in the juvenile system but there was nothing anybody could do. We were told that once she moves out we are not responsible anymore except for medical bills. I sure would like to find out why we are responsible for that. I don't want to be responsible for anything! The kids have to learn a hard lesson and we have to let them do that. I feel if they move out.....we shouldn't be responsible for anything anymore! I have to keep my daughter on our health insurance just in case she would do something dumb and get in an accident. I don't have the money to pay all her medical bills so I keep insurance on her.....
I don't understand why kids want to be on their own before they have to.......life is a long game and you have the rest of your life to be on your own and responsible. Why not stay in a loving home and not have all the worries????? I will never understand!!
I understood that as a parent we are responsible for all legal and financal issues of the child until they are 18, even if they are not living in our home. What support is there for the parents? We have no way of knowing what our child is doing but are still responsible. How messed up is that.
I would love my child to be back home.........but i know that she won't stay. Tough love is hard.

Well to be honest some times some children just need to be on their own to see how hard it is and to appreciate their parents. and in some cases it is nessacery. Like a friend of mine. her mother mentaly abuses her, yet she dose not want to go to the police bc she does not want to become a ward of the state. Yet she dose not want to live with her mom, but she dose not turn 17 untill july 31. So yea she is just waiting it out. So maybe if you just let her leave shell come back and if not there is nothing more you can do. if she dose get into trouble make her get a job and make her pay for her mistakes. or you can just tell the state to lock her up. I mean you only have so many options and none of them are going to be easy.
