Multiple Tickets for Same Offense (New Jersey)
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: New Jersey

I was recently stopped by a state trooper on NJTP for speeding and given a ticket for "failure to follow traffic signs". I looked up the website for paying the ticket and found out that there is another outstanding ticket for the same date and time and the next ticket number for going 25-29 mph over. I was *not* given this second ticket at the time the trooper stopped me.

    a) Is it common for cops to write a second ticket and not give it to you, or even tell you about it when they stop you?

    b) The cop told me that I was doing 81 in a 65 zone. That is 16 mph over, not 25-29 mph over.

Has anyone else been in this situation before? It sounds awfully shady to me. What's the best option for me. I will go to court, of course.

What was the sign that you were charged of "failing to follow"?

And is the address that the DMV has/on your license current and accurate?

It was a "failure to follow" the speed limit signs, which is what the cop said. All the addresses are current. The court said that I was supposed to get the second ticket in the mail, which I haven't yet.
