Can I Get Emancipated at 17 Years
My names Sabrina Im seventeen years old and would like to know would I be able to get emancipated? I understand that it is severly hard to get emancipated with a child (baby)! I do have a 7mth old daughter! I live with my friend which I've been living with since I was 2mths pregnant. I do pay half of the rent which is 375 and water and electricity which varies mth from month. I've been working for 7mths. I currently have a checking and savings account. At this moment I have 525 dollars in my savings which i know is not anything but is there in case of emergency. I am not with my daughters father. My daughter has everything she needs because of me. I buy her food and mine i dont rely on anybody. I have currently been looking at apartments and I have found alot that are really similar to the price I pay. I am attending school everyday for four hrs and have daycare. I have a babysitter that I pay when I go to work. My father lives with my granmother and is a bum and is in no way able to support me. My mother does not work either and lives off of social security and child support and can not support us which is why I do not reside with her. She expects us to fit in a two bedroom when its me my baby, sister who is currently pregnant, brother, her, and her boyfriend I really need to be emancipated. Does anybody have any information???

No, we don't, since you ignored the rules of the forum to identify your state.

One hurdle here is that you are splitting the rent with another person. That is not supporting yourself, that is relying on others to help support you.

Yep, Dive is right - you need to be able to show the court that if that other person (and their money) dropped off the face of the earth, that you and you alone would STILL be able to pay for everything - including THEIR share of the bills, rent, utilities, etc. If you can do that, having a roommate becomes less of an issue (but you'd better have some substantial savings to back that up).

Financial self-sufficiency does not necessarily mean self-sufficiency in the same apartment.

Yes I undestand that but the half of the rent I pay is enough for apartments even less that I have seen. I cant move into one because of my age. If I were to move It would be me and only my daughter and I be able to pay it on my rent utilities bills, etc because thats what I pay now, so therefore I would not need a roomate.
