Stolen Check
My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: FLORIDA.
SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY WHO LIVES IN NEW YORK SENT ME A CHECK FOR ABOUT 10,000 DOLLARS, IT NEVER CAME IN MY MAIL AND WE FOUND OUT IT WAS CASHED. WE CHECKED WITH THE BANK AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT, ON THE CHECK IT SAID PAY TO THE ORDER OF CASH.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET THIS MONEY BACK?
SOMEONE GIVE ME THE STEPS. AND IF I GET THE POLICE IN THIS WILL I BE MOST LIKELY ABLE TO RETRIVE MY MONEY?

Re: Stolen Check
That depends upon whether the thief has any money with which to pay you.
What do you mean, "If I get the police in this" - why wouldn't you?
This is a good cautionary tale as to why it's not wise to make checks (and particularly large checks) out to "cash".

Re: Stolen Check
yes well that was a mistake on my familys part but if I report it, and they have to find the person because every bank or casshing place ask s for Vaild id. correct?
so either way he or she would get caught once they got the surveillance or information from wherever it was cashed?

Re: Stolen Check
You'll find out if the bank obtained ID after the police investigate (but if they have any sense they required ID - and probably had to in order to comply with IRS regulations). I think it's likely that with the amount of the check, it was deposited in somebody's account.
The longer you delay, the less likely it will be that surveillance video will be available. The longer you delay, the less likely it is that there will be any money left to recover. What are you waiting for?

Re: Stolen Check
Report it to the local police. Give them contact information for the person you're dealing with at the bank.
