Can They Charge You when You Become an Adult for a Crime You Committed As a Minor
My question involves criminal law for the state of: AZ
Last June my son was arrested in Scottsdale, AZ for possession of marijuana (an ounce). They took him to the station and immediatly released him to his grandmother. We have yet to hear anything since. He has had a run in with the police since then and nothing has come up. he will be 18 in december I was thinkining they scatched it since he is almost 18 his father says they are waiting to charge him with it after he turns 18 can they do that? Charge you when you become an adult for a crime you committed as a minor?
Re: Can They Charge You when You Become an Adult for a Crime You Committed As a Minor
They charge 13 year olds as adults all the time, he doesn't need to be 18. They have 2 years or longer to file charges and like to let you hang there until the SOL runs out. Which is a form of punishment. If you get arrested again they are more likely to file the charges.

They can't charge you as an adult if the indcident took place when he was a minor. They can wait until the statue of limitions happened, they will still have to charge him as a minor.17 is most likely considered an adult in az thou.
