What kind of work project is it and against what religion?
Was you employer aware that this would be an issue when you were hired?
The question is whether they're sincerely held religious beliefs, and if the employer has been made aware of them, not whether the employer knew at the time of hiring (or if there has been a subsequent religious conversion).
But it's important to know what type of project we're talking about, how it conflicts with your religion, and whether your objection can be reasonably accommodated within your job or workplace.
Society has changed a GREAT deal since I was hired and I don't believe anyone was aware this would be an issue when I was first hired.
Yes the employer is aware of beliefs etc.
It is a "design" project for a group that is in opposition to my beliefs.
IN WHAT WAY is it in opposition to your beliefs?
We're trying to help here but you're not giving us anything to go on.
What does that mean:confused:
It sounds to me - and I'm using my imagination here, since you've given us nothing else to go by.... You've been asked to do graphics for a pancake house menu that is sponsored by the KKK:p
Seriously - if you want to know if you're being discriminated against based on your religion you are going to have to give SPECIFIC information.
For me It would be akin to being asked to create an announcement for the KKK.
Still not specific enough.
EXACTLY what are you being asked to do, and EXACTLY what is your sincerely held religious belief that prohibits you from doing it?
We can't answer your question if you're just going to pussyfoot around and make us drag it out of you. Spit it out.
create designs for groups that are against marriage as I define it according to my beliefs.
Nope, sorry, not religious discrimination.
All that beating around the bush for this? Really? If you're so courageous and full of religious conviction that you don't think you should have to work on the project, it shouldn't have taken us this many posts to beat your problem out of you.
But no. "I don't define marriage like that" is not the same as needing time off for Mass on Ash Wednesday, or needing to scoot out the door before sundown on Friday because you're very strictly observant.
