Does Green Card Lottery Prevent F-1
Hi,
This is my first post here.
I am admitted to a PhD program.
I have 2 Visitor Us-visas (B1/B2) on my passport. first one 1 year and second is for 10 years.
I have visited US before and did not overstay.
I have also applied for Diversity Visa (green card) Lottery for 2010 at the end of 2008.
Now I will apply for F-1.
Does Green card lottery application effect acquiring F-1 visa?
I applied just because my friends were applying, was that a mistake that may effect my PhD?
Looking forward to replies...
Re: Does Green Card Lottery Prevent F-1
When you are applying for an F1 visa, you must state in the DS-156 that you have applied an immigrant visa before. It's thus quite possible that the application will detrimentally affect your F1 application, particularly if you cannot show clear ties to your nation of origin and sufficient finances to support you in your studies. I would suggest reviewing the details of your situation with an immigration lawyer.
