    U.S. Citizenship Through Military Service
My boyfriend is an illegal immigrant trying to obtain citizenship. According to the USCIS Naturalization Process for the Military fact sheet, a "qualifying service member is not required to be a lawful permanent resident to naturalize under this provision (Service in Wartime) if the service member enlisted or was inducted within the United States or other qualifying geographical area."

So with that, if he enlists then is it guaranteed that he will become a citizen?

Illegal immigrants cannot join the Military, legal green card holders can. However any legal visa (school) MIGHT work. research it by googling this term
