Green Card and Social Security Benefits
    Hi,

I'm a citizen of Israel and a holder of a Green Card.
I have already obtained more than the 40 credits needed to be eligible for social security benefits , but I'm not in a retirement age yet.
My question is : Suppose I decide to return to Israel and give up my Green Card , will I'll get the social security benefits when I'm retired , despite the fact that I'll not have the Green Card anymore ?

    Thanks,
    ABY41

Since you earned the money, yes, you should receive the payments.

    Thanks for the reply.
I logged on to the website and I find the information somewhat "tricky" , it says :" If you are a citizen of one of the countries listed below, your Social Security payments will keep coming no matter how long you stay outside the U.S., as long as you are eligible for the payments".
Israel is one of those countries , however , the last sentence says : as long as you're eligible for the payments , and the question is: once I give up my Green Card , Am I still considered to be eligible ?

Yes. Social Security benefits are not dependent upon you retaining your Green Card.
